Question Settings

Question settings are different variables and conditions that can be applied to the field types that the platform supports.

  • The Piping option allows you to pipe an answer from a prior question into your current question. Piping currently supports: Text, Multiple Choice, Sliding Scale, Phone Number, Percentage, Numeric, Email, Date, Time, Date and Time question types.

  • The Media variable allows you to choose an audio, video or image file that will be attached to your question and available for your participants to view.
  • The Variable Name allows you to edit the name of the question id for use in Calculated Value or response analysis.

  • The Private Responses option will allow a participant to submit a private response that the researcher will not be able to see. This is best used with organic location-based triggers where a researcher wants to prompt a participant in their home, but wants the exact coordinates of the house to be private.

  • The Groups function allows you to create custom groups that you can assign questions to in order to partition them within a survey.

  • Disable Question has the ability to disable questions which will not be sent to the survey that participants complete. The question can be enabled afterward which will then be available to participants. A question can not be disabled if it is used in Display Conditions, Piping, or a Calculated Formula.

  • The Confirm Skip option prompts a box where participants must confirm that they wish to skip a question without providing a response.

  • The Randomize Choices Order variable randomizes the order of selection with question types like Multiple Choice or Check Boxes.

  • The Response Required variable gives you the option of making a response from the participant mandatory, ensuring they can’t skip a question.

  • The Time to Answer box sets a time cap for the participant. They must answer a question within an allotted time.

  • The Time Until Next Button Becomes Active feature sets a time cap before the next button is shown to the participant.

  • The Add Condition or Display Condition feature allows you to apply logic in the form of ``if`` statements to previous questions. You can choose to display a follow-up question or an entire question set based upon how a participant answers a previous question.

  • The Bulk Add Choices feature allows you to copy and paste a list of choices into choice-based question types. This option also allows you to specify what character can be assigned as the delimiter to split up choices.

  • Specify Choice Limit is a feature that allows the researcher to specify a minimum and maximum number of choices.

  • Comments allow for added input on specific questions. These comments can be seen by other collaborators as well when sharing studies.
