Import/Export Questions from CSV

Instead of using the question builder, MetricWire allows you to import an already created question set.

Step-by-step guide:

  1. Create a new survey, and within the Add Questions screen, select View Instructions.
  2. From here you will need to download a CSV Template. You may also view an example template in order to aid you with building your questionnaire.
  3. The template will ensure that your data is in the proper format for a mass upload.
  4. Under the variableName column, type out a variable name for your question. Eg: "name". This can be left blank if you choose.
  5. Under the type column, enter the following based on your preference:
    1. For Text responses enter TEXT
    2. For Information fields enter INFORMATION
    3. For Multiple Choice (Only One Answer) responses enter SINGLE_CHOICE
    4. For Multiple Choice (Multiple Answers) or Checkboxes responses enter MULTIPLE_CHOICE
    5. For Sliding Scale responses enter SLIDING_SCALE
    6. For Numeric responses enter NUMERIC
    7. For Percentage responses enter PERCENT
    8. For Phone Number responses enter PHONE_NUMBER
    9. For Email Address responses enter EMAIL
    10. For Date responses enter DATE
    11. For Time responses enter TIME
    12. For Date and Time responses enter DATETIME
    13. For Geolocation responses enter GEOLOCATION
    14. For Ranking responses enter RANKING
    15. For Dropdown responses enter DROPDOWN
    16. For Range Scale responses enter RANGE_SCALE
    17. For Picture responses enter PICTURE
    18. For Audio responses enter AUDIO
    19. For Video responses enter VIDEO
  6. Under choices, fill out your choices for the question separated by '|'. Eg: red|blue|green.
  7. Under disabled, either set TRUE or FALSE. This will disable the question from being sent to the phones.
  8. Under private, either set TRUE or FALSE. This will hide the question's responses in view responses.
  9. Under required, either set TRUE or FALSE. This will make the question required to have a response.
  10. Under confirmSkip, either set TRUE or FALSE. This will prompt the participant to confirm that they are skipping the question if they choose to do so.
  11. Under randomize, either set TRUE or FALSE. This will randomize the order of the choices. This only applies to SINGLE_CHOICE, MULTIPLE_CHOICE, RANKING and DROPDOWN questions.
  12. Under timeToAnswer, set the time to answer a question in seconds. Please only enter numbers, eg: 60
  13. Under timeToNextQuestion, set the time to the next question in seconds. Please only enter numbers, eg: 60
  14. Under startLabel and endLabel columns, you can enter a text for a customizable label text. This only applies to SLIDING_SCALE, PERCENT and RANGE_SCALE questions.
  15. Under pictureAttachment, you can enter a url to an image file (web link ending in .png, .jpg, .gif, etc). This will make the image viewable in the question.
  16. Under audioAttachment, you can enter a url (web link ending in .mp3) to an audio file. This will allow the participant to listen to the audio in the question.
  17. Under videoAttachment, you can enter a url to an video file (web link ending in .mp4). This will allow the participant to watch the video in the question.
  18. Under pdfAttachment, you can enter a link to an pdf file. This will allow the participant to view the pdf file in the question.
  19. Under rows, fill out your choices for rows, the question separated by '|'. Eg: red|blue|green. this only applies to Matrix Questions for Web Surveys
  20. Under columns, fill out your choices for columns, the question separated by '|'. Eg: red|blue|green. this only applies to Matrix Questions for Web Surveys
  21. Under lengthLimit, you can enter a number in seconds that limits the duration of an audio or video recording. This only applies to AUDIO and VIDEO questions. Maximum length limit for audio files is 600 seconds and for video files 300 seconds.
  22. Once you have filled in the CSV Template, you can now save it, return to the popup modal in the MetricWire platform and upload your CSV. The questions will now populate within the question builder.

 

Be sure to test your question set before deploying to your participants, as some complications may arise from importing question sets.
