Calculated Value

Calculated Value allows a researcher to choose response variables from previous questions and assign values, or create complex formulas based on their outcomes. Numeric, Percentage, Multiple Choice, and Sliding Scale are they only question types available for use with Calculated Value.

In this example, we will calculate Body Mass Index. 

The formula for BMI is: bodyweight in kilograms divided by height in meters squared or BMI = x KG / (y M * y).

We would choose two numeric questions and label them as Height and Weight. In the Calculated Value screen, select questions from the dropdown menu, and select Insert Question to place them in the formula queue. On the left-side of the screen, you may choose your operations to complete the formula. Save the formula once you are finished, and MetricWire will automatically calculate it and display it to your participants on the app.
